Providing forensic financial investigative services to Federal, State and local law enforcement officials, as well as, to members of associated industries. Participating as a member of the investigative team during criminal and regulatory investigations and inspections relating to all crimes within ATF jurisdiction. Planning and conducting forensic financial investigations of persons or entities suspected of being involved in criminal schemes. Participating with special agents in the preparation and serving of subpoenas and search warrants to obtain financial information and data stored or warehoused through electronic means or computer devices including but not limited to, computer applications. Conducting assigned forensic audits in criminal investigations. Planning and conducting complex assignments, but not the most difficult or complex cases. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses. Basic Requirements:
A. Degree:
accounting; or a degree in a related field such as; business administration, finance or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours of accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law ORB. Combination of education and experience-at least 4 years of experience in accounting; or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
1. Twenty-four semester hours of accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;2. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; OR3. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g. 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has auditing, or a related field, e.g. valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equal in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A:
and (c) except for literal conformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training and experience fully meet the specified requirements. To qualify for the GS-12 level candidates must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the federal service. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. Specialized experience include:
Experience in forensic accounting and have conducted or been a member of an investigative team that conducted complex criminal or civil financial fraud investigations or complex financial/regulatory audits that involved numerous individuals and/or business entities and operations as part of the audit. The GS-12 salary range starts at $88,651.00 per year. If you are a new federal (civil service) employee, your starting salary will be set at the Step 1 for this position. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
